Pastor Harry grew up on a small farm in West Caton, NY about 15 miles north of Pennsylvania. After graduating from Corning-Painted Post West HS, he attended Roberts’ Wesleyan College (Roberts’ University) graduating in 1970 with a BA in English Literature.
That summer he began a 32-year stint as a pastor in the Free Methodist denomination (FMC). Twenty-three of those years were spent right here in the Cowanesque Valley. Perhaps the most significant event during those years was that he married the love of his life, Elkland’s Sunnee Thompson. They have been blessed with three sons and six grandchildren.
Along the way Pastor Harry has spent nine years as a church planter in Liverpool, NY, during which he picked up an MBA at Syracuse University. After 32 years in the FMC, the Lord led to a transfer to the Evangelical Congregational Church. Then began twelve years serving the Trinity ECC congregation in Lititz, PA.
After 44 years of ministry, Harry and Sunnee retired, moving to Auburn, NY, to be near children and grandchildren. Four months later, as they searched for a home church, they hooked up with a little country church that was without a pastor. Retirement was then postponed, and the next nearly nine years were spent serving the Lord with the people of the Half Acre Union Church of Auburn, NY.
Finally, as retirement beckoned again, Harry and Sunnee moved closer to their roots, locating at 4 Cherry Street, in Lawrenceville, PA. Beginning in June of 2023 they gave retirement a second chance. Apparently retirement is disagreeable. Pastor Harry and Sunnee are looking forward to this next chapter as they journey along with the Calvary Family.
